I was using the Dr. G's brand Phytoplankton and found i was spending an  arm and a leg.  So I decided to start my own culture of the phyto.

I first started out with the Dr. G's live phyto and the micro algae grow.  I had some power compact lighting laying around, air pump, and put it all in a bucket to make it portable so if my wife decided she didn't like were it was, i could move it to a better spot.  i have been making the phyto now for about 3 months and am selling it to the LFS's as well as friends and family that have reef aquariums.

I found the directions and use them to a T from www.melevsreef.com/phytoplankton.html and have had no problems!  I have actually sent him a few emails and he has helped me out.

I used miracle grow, essential elements, and the micro algae grow to keep these cultures going.  the dosages are different for the different size bottles you use.  For the one liter bottles i use 1 ml of the miracle grow, and 1 ml of the essential elements.  The micro algae grow i only used to start new cultures.  i just feel as though there is enough in there that i don't need to add it.  as for the lighting, it needs to be on for 16 hours out of the day and in pitch black for the other 8 hours.

This is very easy and a lot cheaper to make at home then to go out and buy it!  I do sell the phyto so if you are interested please feel free to contact me and i will get some out to you right away!  Just click the "contact me" link at the bottom of the page.

The 16.9 floz bottles are $10 shipped, and the 33.8 floz bottles are $20 shipped.  I also have larger bottles, so if interested in those please let me know and i will give a price upon request.
